ASUS ZENBOOK UX32VDASUS Transformer Prime launched Asus as a major player in the ever growing and popular tablet pc market. The product was launched on Dec 1st 2011 in Taiwanese market and on Dec 19th 2011 in US and UK market. The product has already proved itself as a tough competitor in the tablet PC market and is already rated among the top tablets. In my article on top 10 tablets of 2012, Asus Transformer Prime was rated as 2nd best in my rating, but there are lots of reviews which rate it even better than iPad 2.In this article, I will cover the entire features of ASUS Transformer Prime which will help you in understanding the product much better and take a decision on if this is your dream tablet that you have been looking for.

ASUS Transformer Prime is first tablet that runs with the processor quad-Core NVIDIA Tegra 3. Powered by quad-Core, ASUS Transformer Prime tegra graphTransformer prime take browsing web and multitasking to newer heights. Power of quad-core is widely appreciated for their amazing graphics and the capability to run several resource hungry games smoothly. The statistics shown from a leaked benchmarking result will tell you the rest of story about the power of Tegra 3.

The tablet works on Android™ 3.2 Honeycomb OS. It is now upgradable to the latest Android™ 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The tablets works perfectly with Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich. I suggest an upgrade as Ice Cream Sandwich have made small but significant improvements to Honeycomb. The presence of Android comes with another advantage of choosing from more than 500,000 applications available in the Android market.

ASUS Transformer Prime thickness

ASUS Transformer Prime is also thinner and lighter than its predecessor, Asus EEE DAP Transformer. It is mind blowingly thin, with 8.3 mm thickness and weigh only 1.29 pounds(0.58Kg). This is in fact the most compact tablet in the market.

ASUS Transformer Prime screen

Transformer Prime has a screen of 10.1 inches upgraded to Super IPS+ display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. This enable the device to give an improved brightness output of 600nits which makes it possible to read comfortably even at outdoors. Asus proudly boast about a screening angle of 178 degrees which is quiet amazing. Yes, they are not exaggerating. Even at these angles there is very little loss of color or contrast. Another peculiarity of the screen is finger print resistant. My experience was different. I purposely tried to put my fingerprints on the screen and succeeded in getting imprints on it. However on a positive note, it was easy to wipe out the finger prints without any trace. The screen might have used a special coating which enabled to get rid of it smoothly.

ASUS Transformer Prime cameraRegarding camera, the tablet comes with  a 8 MP came in the rear and 2MP camera in the front. The backside camera is equipped with an illuminated sensorial CMOS and designed to guarantee sufficient exposure to the light. It capture images with good emphasis on the object and make your images clear, shining and videos silky smooth. Video can be captured at 1080p Full HD. Also it is a camera of 2 MP in front oriented for chat of video. Asus claims a 30% improvement in capturing images and videos compared to its competitors which is fully justified.

Talking about videos, the first thing that comes to our mind is playing movies and songs. The sound effect is definitely worth mentioning. Asus use SonicMaster sound technology for speakers and the sound is crystal clear and loud enough for playing in your own private party. However the sound comes from only one speaker on the right side of the tablet which was a disappointment for me, but it compensated that by providing the best speaker available in the tablet market. You also have the option to choose between storage memory of 32GB /64GB which should be enough to store your favorite songs and movies. In addition, Asus also provides 8GB of web space to store files.

Talking about videos, I need to mention how it performed in the gaming section. Even before I mention the result, think about the power of Tegra 3 and the impact of such processing power on playing games. I am sure, now you won’t be surprised if I give a A+ when it comes to playing games.

Like its predecessor, ASUS Transformer Prime have an option to use a portable docking station. The portable docking station provides a keyboard, acts as a stand and provide extra battery life to your tablet. It also have 2 USB port and a SD card slot for added expandability. You can see in the below image.

Regarding the keyboard, the between the keys is shorter which gives you a weird experience initially as you get adjusted to the layout. This was expected anyways considering ASUS Transformer Prime is very slim. The trackpad is also very small, but precise and responsive. An annoyance that I found about trackpad is that you tend to brush your right thumb accidentally while typing causing the pointer to jump around and disturb typing. However it can be solved easily by disabling trackpad when typing, just by pressing a button.

In terms of battery life, ASUS Transformer Prime can work approximately 9.5 -10hrs without charging. If it is attached to a portable docking station, it can be extended upto incredible 18hrs.

Transformer Prime comes with a 1yr warranty, free one way shipping and 24/7 technical support.

My Final Verdict: ASUS Transformer Prime, without doubt is the best Android tablet currently in the market with a  sexy design, powerful processor, impressive features and impressive camera. For someone who is looking for a cross between a laptop and a tablet, ASUS Transformer Prime is the best option at this moment.
