We all have our App preferences when it comes to opening certain type of file. If you already set your Android to open a certain file type using a particular App, it is tricky to change it using another App. In this case, I set all my videos to open by YouTube Video App. But, now I want to try VLC App for playing videos. Here is how to change the default App for Android.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Go to Apps list. Check the list of all Apps. In case if this App is from Google Play, check the downloaded list.
  3. Search for the App which you want to change the default for. (In this case YouTube video)
  4. Open the App
  5. Click Clear Defaults

Once the defaults are cleared, the App is no more the default for opening any files.

Additionally since you are in this location, you can click on the clear cache and clear data options to clear the cache and temp files accumulated by that particular app. Don’t worry, this is not going to delete any of your personal data such as pictures, videos and documents.
