Firefox is one of the most popular browsers after Chrome and IE. In the past, Firefox was the most popular browser. But in recent times, the popularity declined owing to discovery of bugs, slow performance of browser and increased RAM usage.
Server not found is one of the common errors on Firefox. The reason can be attributed to slow internet connection, presence of too much temp files, DNS problems etc. Try troubleshooting in this order to fix server not found for some website in Firefox browser.
- Close all open Firefox windows and start over
The error may happen soon after Firefox installed some updates for itself in the background. This can lead to build up of temporary files and conflicts between Firefox files. So you need to shutdown Firefox completely and start over.Some instances of Firefox may still run in the background even if you close it. To prevent that, open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+ Shift + Esc, check if there are any Firefox entry inside. If Yes, right click and select end process to close the service completely.
Open Firefox and check if server not found error is coming back.
- Remove temp files from Firefox
The Firefox browser might be carrying lot of temporary files which might be a problem.Open Firefox browser. Click Tools , click Options, go to Advanced Tab. Under Cached Web Content. Click on Clear Now for web content cache.

- Restart computer and modem
Restarting computer and modem is recommended, so that everything is reset. Lot of problems related to browsers and OS can be fixed by a simple restart. Also, turn of the modem and router for 2-3mts. (Turning it off for 2-3mts help in proper power cycling) Now turn it on.Now check the status of the problem.
- Confirm Firewall is not a problem
Changes in Firewall settings may lead to accidental block by Firewall. Open Firewall and select load default settings. This should remove if there is any accidental blocking of certain website or block of certain Firefox settings by Firewall. Now check if the problem is solved.
- Change DNS address
- Press Windows Key + R. Type ncpa.cpl for opening Network Connections window
- right click on local area connection, then click properties
- Click Internet protocol version(TCP/IPv4), then properties
- Click internet protocol ,select use the following DNS server address
- change DNS server address to global DNS value given below
Alternate 188.8.131.52 (You can also use Google’s DNS address preferred 184.108.40.206 and alternate 220.127.116.11)
Now check the status.
