The tiles on the start screen either appear as a large square or a small square. Sometimes you need it look big to make it more visible on the screen especially on a screen with higher resolution. For others, you need to make it small so that you can squeeze in more apps on the saved space. Also it makes the start screen looks clean and spacious. Some of the default apps that come with Windows 8 cannot be resized such as Maps App, Windows Store App and Camera App. So too some of the third party apps. But you still can make changes on the other apps.

  1. Check for Resize option in Apps. Right click the app that you want to resize. If the tile can be resized, a button will appear on the app bar which says larger or smaller.

  2. Increase or Decrease the tile size. If the selected app is already smaller, you will get a larger option button on the app bar. If it is already big, you will have the smaller option button on the app bar.

  3. Check the end result. Once the resizing is done, check the result. You will now notice that the tiles have moved automatically to fill the increased or decreased space.
