iMessage, a new application lets you communicate with your contact list by sending unlimited text messages,videos and photos which can be tracked using delivery receipts. Since iOS is spread in other devices, you can even send messages to other devices. There is also facetime, included which allows video chat.
Better task management
iOS is equipped with better reminders which allows you to view your to-do list at any time with a 2 month calendar, so that you can see and plan your schedule in advance. You can schedule the task and even tick off when the task is completed. Reminders are compatible with iCal, iCloud and Outlook. Reminders can even be made geo sensitive, meaning an alert can be triggered if you want a job to be done when you are in office.
Sync data using wireless
Previous OS needs to be connected to a computer using cable for syncing. In the age of Wi-Fi, Apple ensured that data can be synced without using a cable. Only condition is that your Ios device and computer should be in the same wireless network.
Less obtrusive alerts
Notification center is improved in iOS 5 to make it easier to find and track emails, messages, reminders and calendar events. You just need to touch the time and information bar at the top and wipe down to reveal all of the latest notification in one place. The notification center can also be viewed from lock screen.
Better Reader Management
A new feature, Newsstand helps in organizing and read your newspaper and magazine subscriptions. The downloaded issues will appear automatically on virtual bookshelf and the app will let you know if new subscriptions are available. The updates are done automatically when your device is connected to internet.
Better camera
Camera controls are made easy in iOS5. Volume up and down button can be used for closing the shutter. Also you directly go to camera from the lock mode which enables taking a quick snap when needed.
Freedom for all iOS devices
OS updates can be downloaded and done straight to your device without even connecting to computer. You can take backup and restore data for your device on iCloud. So no need to depend on computer.
