Qualcomm officially released the latest processor Snapdragon 821 during second half of 2016. The new processor is integrated with the latest technologies for LTE modem and enhanced functionality than its predecessor Snapdragon 820.

This is what to expect from Snapdragon 821

  • The processor improve startup or boot up time 10% faster
  • The processor helps improve launch applications up by 10% faster
  • More processing power to provide better user interface, provide smoother scrolling and more responsive browser performance

Snapdragon 821 improved performance and power consumption

  • Increased CPU speed: The processor use Qualcomm Kryo CPU which can perform at a speed of 2.4GHz. This is 10% faster than the predecessor Snapdragon 820 which run at 2.2GHz.
  • Increased GPU speed: The processor use Qualcomm Adreno 530 GPU capable of working at 650MHz + speed which is 5% faster than the predecessor Adreno 530 which run at 624 MHz.
  • Better Power management: Snapdragon 821 has optimized its power consumption by 5% compared to its predecessor. This allow the devices to have an extended battery life and also reduce the battery size to make thinner and smaller device.

Snapdragon 21 additional features

Here are some of the features and capabilities added to Snapdragon 21.

  • Support for Advanced Wi-Fi: The processor support the latest Wi-Fi standard 802.11 ad and 802.11 ac. Support of 802.11 ad means 3 times faster WiFi than 802.11 ac.
  • Lightning Fast LTE: The processor supports LTE Category 12 which supports download speeds up to 600 Mbps.
  • Snapdragon VR SDK: The processor SDK (Software Development Kit) now provide VR toolkits and compatible with Google Daydream platform. The SDK supports a superior level of audio and visual quality. This is a major development in encouraging development of VR apps and games.
  • Extended Auto-Focus Ranging: An improved faster and extended autofocus range compared to predecessor Snapdragon 820.
  • Dual PD: The processor offers faster image autofocus. The process performance should allow for better camera phones in the future.
  • Support for latest Nougat OS: Snapdragon 821 supports the latest Android Nougat OS. This allow developers to tweak Nougat for adding new features, add more security, faster apps and games.

Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe is the first phone to come with Snapdragon 821. Some of the other which runs on Snapdragon 821 – Google Pixel and Pixel XL, LeEco Le Pro3, Asus Zenfone 3, Xiaomi Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus etc.
