The most cherished dream of any gamer is to have a powerful gaming laptop with high performance and a compact stylish case. But there is always a fear of possible overheating of the system and insufficient power. We tested the Alienware M15 gaming laptop and found out if it’s as good as the manufacturer claims.

Sometimes some gaming laptops look cute only in photos but live it is not so colorful. This is due to the fact that the manufacturer is forced to save on body materials and cheapen them in every way.

However, Alienware M15 has bypassed this story. M15 is made in Alienware brand design. The laptop comes in two colors – Grey and Red. The thickness of the laptop over the entire surface is only 21 mm, and the weight is 2.16 kg.

Alienware M15 colors

On the right side, we have only two USB 3.1. Just say that there is no SD card slot in the laptop. Apparently, they had to sacrifice to achieve such a thickness of the shell.

On the left side, we have one USB 3.1, Ethernet LAN and a combined headphone and microphone jack.

All the main connectors are located on the back cover: HDMI, Mini-DisplayPort, USB Type-C, power connector and a wide interface for connecting the docking station with an external video card.

The back cover is made of magnesium alloy. It protects the laptop from shock and weighs less compared to aluminum. By the way, the stereo speakers are on both sides at 45 degrees and directed

The main panel is made of soft-touch soft plastic. The keyboard itself is equipped with high-quality RGB backlight with multi-level brightness. The keyboard stroke is not the smallest, so typing and playing on it is quite convenient.

The Alienware M15 has a 15.6-inch display with an IPS matrix and Full HD resolution. Also, the screen has a refresh rate of 144 Hz and supports G-Sync technology and this allows you to play games with a smoother picture with fewer breaks. The margin of brightness in this model is 300 nits and this value is more than enough to play indoors, but will not be enough when working in direct sunlight. The backlight over the entire surface is uniform, and the viewing angles are 178 degrees.

Alienware M15 Hardware

Alienware M15 has a large variety of configurations. We also came to the test version with a 6-core Intel Core i7-8750H processor with a maximum frequency of 4.1 GHz. It is made on 14 nm process technology, and the TDP is 45 watts.

The model is equipped with 16 GB of RAM type DD4 with an operating frequency of 2666 MHz and the ability to expand up to 32 GB.

Regarding memory, there is a really fast 256GB PCIe M.2 type SSD and 1 TB HDD for storing files.

Alienware M15 is equipped with a new generation video card Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 with 6 GB of memory. It supports real-time ray tracing, artificial intelligence and programmable shaders.

Alienware M15 Software

Alienware M15 is available in special Alienware Command Center software. With it, you can control the RGB backlight, and not only the keyboard but also two Alienware logos. For example, you can set what color the front logo will burn depending on the remaining charge level. Also through this program, you can set the level of processor performance, audio mode, as well as monitor the overall state of the system according to its main indicators.

Alienware M15 Battery

The laptop is charged with a healthy power supply with a capacity of 180 W and a weight of 600 grams. Thanks to this, from zero to one hundred M15 in about an hour and a half. Regarding the time of work, then one charge in normal mode is enough for 4 hours, and in-game mode for 1.5 hours.

Alienware M15 conclusion

Alienware M15 proved to be a great gaming notebook with a very nice design with a super performance. The remaining advantages include a high-quality display, small thickness of the body, low weight and plenty of RGB backlight. By cons, we attributed the lack of a connector under the SD card and the marzime of the case.
