Taiwanese manufacturer MediaTek on Tuesday introduced another flagship system on the chip Helio G90 and G90T. They consist of 8 CPU cores with a clock speed of 2.05 GHz. These are the cores of ARM Cortex-A76 and A55, the combination of which has long been familiar in mobile systems of various manufacturers. There is also a Mali G76 graphics processor with a clock speed of up to 800 MHz and support for 10 GB of LPDDR4x RAM.
Helio G90 and Helio G90T have acquired support for LPDDR4x RAM with a frequency of 2133 MHz with a maximum capacity of 10 GB. In smartphones based on new processors, we can see 64-megapixel single cameras or dual with a resolution of 21 Mp + 16 Mp and the ability to record video at a frame rate of 240 fps. The configuration of single-chip systems includes 4G-modems Cat-12 4G LTE, capable of providing data download speeds up to 1 Gbit/s.
These systems on the chip were the first for MediaTek in the game series G. Here, a technology called HyperEngine is used, the purpose of which is to increase the speed of work in games. The HDR10 RT standard is supported, there is also a network activity prediction engine to detect a drop in the quality of Wi-Fi networks and automatically switches to LTE. Another engine is designed to make the touch screen more responsive. Cameras with resolutions up to 64 megapixels are supported, including several, night mode and face detection using AI.
Also worth noting is the presence of a dual-band Wi-Fi adapter, support for Google Assistant and Alexa voice assistants. Helio G90 has already been tested in the AnTuTu software. The overall result score as 222,282. The software awarded the CPU 83,145 points, and the graphics chip – 67,629 points.
Surely MediaTek is counting on the demand for its processors from the manufacturers of gaming smartphones like the Razer Phone 2 and Asus ROG Phone 2. However, these smartphones now work on the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, while MediaTek chips are used in devices of the middle and initial price categories, such as devices Xiaomi Redmi or Nokia. It will be interesting to see how the new MediaTek G90 chips look like on the background of Snapdragon 855 in benchmarks and games.
