We can’t connect at the moment. Wait a little while, then try again. If you keep getting this error, make sure your server settings are correct in Settings > Email + accounts.
This may be because your mobile date connections are turned off.

How to Fix Error Code: 80072EE7

  1. Got to Phone Settings. Open email + accounts. Open Microsoft account
  2. Scroll down to Server. Change the address to m.hotmail.com ( On my phone, somehow the address got corrupted to bay407-m.hotmail.gcom. “there’s a g before .com”. ) The Server address might automatically change later, but continue with that as long as everything works fine.

Once the above changes are made, there are chances that you might still get an error but with a new Error code: 85050003 while trying to sync.

Your password has expired. First, change it on the web, then come back and update it in your account on the phone.

Error code: 85050003
ix windows phone error code-85050003

  1. Go to phone settings -> date+time settings -> Uncheck Set Automatically. Also manually set the date and time correctly (This error message on my phone was as a result of wrong date. )
  2. If Step 1 didn’t work, change the password for your Microsoft account from the web. This will force the phone to enter your new password which might fix the problem.
  3. If both methods don’t work, you may have to reset the phone as no other solution seems to be working so far. But, take a backup before doing that.

Hope this article helped you in fixing the problem. Use the comment section for queries or feedback.

Thank ya’ll very much because not only have the fastest and clear cut solutions for a litany of struggles with this damn Nokia Lumia windows phone 8.1 plus no one has treated me when either a derisive tone or condescension.moreover my technological skills are embarrassingly limited in addition to without cause or discovery I’ve been blocked by or from the Microsoft community help platform. Sincerely an enthusiastic and poor student much appreciative

Hello, I have an account [email protected] and I use Lumia 535 on Windows phone.
What should be the server settings ? The error code is 80072EE7 or 8500201D.

  • Mary-Rose

By the way, I meant to say, I have a Nokia Lumia 635 Windows 8.1 phone and on the server settings on mail I have m.hotmail.com with dub407- before the m.

It still says, your account requires attention and tells me the same thing. My information is incorrect. Yegods!

    • Remove dub407- .What happens when you change it to m.hotmail.com?

      • Mary-Rose

It comes up with dub407-m.hotmail.com no matter what I do.
In the username just before the server part, my email is put in there and I’m unable to change it as its greyed out, or darkened, if you know what I mean

        • The username is normally greyed out and you wont be able to make any changes there. Could you please check the server name once again? I had seen a case where hotmail is spelled as hotmial.com. Trust me, rarely we notice that and it took couple of trial and error for me to finally point out the mistake.
          Please check and update.

        • if you replied to my last message, could you please re-send it……I doubt if I accidentally deleted a message while doing maintenance now. Please resend.

          • Mary-Rose

Hi, the message I sent was to say that it still comes up
            dub407-m.hotmail.com.
            No spelling errors.

          • BTW, I hope you cross checked date, time and year properly.

            Try this.

Check the list of Apps and remove unwanted, unused or suspicious looking apps. If you have installed any security app, remove it. Then shutdown phone completely. I would even go to the extend of taking battery off and keep it for 2mts to ensure draining off all power and reset default settings. Turn on the phone, configure the right data and time and year. Then try to change the server address.

Please do update the result. If the issue is still not fixed, I will do some more research and get back to you tomorrow.

I can’t do a reset as I’ll lose all settings. I did date and time and set to manual for both and made sure they were ok. They were. I’ve taken the sim and battery out too a few times, to no avail.
I will follow what you’ve said and get back to you to let you know what’s what. Doing a reset means I lose all data. EE referred me to smart switch to backup my data and do a reset but I can’t find any smart switch for a Nokia Lumia.
I’ve tried changing the server address several times. I’ll be back with a result

          • Mary-Rose

Nothing’s worked so far. I’m not doing a hard reset. I just can’t type in or write down all those addresses and then type them in ever again. I can’t change the server. I don’t know what’s going on. I wish I’d never got Microsoft. It’s taken three phones to get this one to work too. I’m completely frustrated, but not in your help. I wished what you’d said worked. I am lost completely as to what to do. I got rid of lots of apps and sadly two of them are now not available so I can’t get them again. They are YouTube and bbc reader app. I don’t know why Microsoft have to complicate things so much with constant sub menus to everything you do.
If you think you can help, please do.
Please let me know what you can do, if anything?

          • Tried re-creating the same on my Lumia 630 phone, but failed. It’s upsetting to know the problem is still there.
I am out of ideas, but try this please. Go to Settings -> email + accounts -> add an account -> outlook.com. re-enter the same user name and password and check if that made a difference.
            Please update.

          • Mary-Rose

I did that a few days ago. Nothing helps. No idea why this is happening. It’s very upsetting not being able to use it. I’ve never felt it was stable but at least it was there. I wish I could correct it. For you can think of anything do post again or send me an email. I can receive emails on my computer ok. One of the emails from yahoo suggested I download an app to get my emails on. I did and yahoo blocked the sign in attempt. What a joke.

  • Mary-Rose

Thank you for this. For some reason my phone says my email information is incorrect. I really can’t do a hard reset on my phone. My brain is puddled with trying to solve this problem. I’m stil trying to load email on my phone. I’ve no idea why it stopped working on Friday night, Saturday morning. I despair of it now.

  • Mohammad Zaki

Thank you. Yes, your solution worked 100%.

  • Frank

    Thank you, very much.
I don’t know how the domain name got corrupted on my phone, but it was.
Amidst all the misinformation on the Internet regarding this issue, it was refreshing to find a simple workable solution in your post. (I read where someone actually suggested wiping the phone and starting over to resolve this, a completely insane approach.)

Thank you for this help thread.
I had accidentally erased the the server address when I first set up the phone, from then on all actions led to the 80072ee7 error code. I searched several Windows sites and finally found this one through a link.
I typed in the correct address and got the service back immediately.
    A great help thank you.

  • Ashley

Thanks so much!!!! This worked perfectly!!!!

    This worked for me:
    – you want to check the following settings: email + accounts > google account > advanced settings and verify incoming and outgoing mail server address and port; in my case imap.gmail.com:993:1, after the port number was another :1, you want to delete that and leave only imap.gmail.com:993.
