This was a new laptop and it was a fresh installation of Windows 10. So I was not expecting any problem in installing these updates.
The update is as big as 3 to 3.5GB, so it took a long time to download. When the installation started, it took a long time but the installation failed multiple times somewhere around 33% or 52%.
I tried to install the update multiple times but every time it failed with the error code 0x800705b4.
I did follow some suggestions on the internet but none of them worked. Another solution was to create an iso file, but I didn’t try that method because I didn’t get much time to try that method.
Finally, I was able to get the issue fixed. Maybe some of you might find this method useful. Here is how I fixed the windows update 1803 error 0x800705b4.
Troubleshoot Windows 10 update 1803 error 0x800705b4
- Check if windows defender is working. Check that by trying to open Windows Defender.
(In this case, I was not able to open Windows Defender from Taskbar and also from Control Panel. Windows Defender was greyed out in services.msc. There was no option to start or enable the service as the options were greyed out)
Usually, this happens when there is a conflict with a third-party security software. In this case, it was the Avast security software which got installed on my computer accidentally while I was trying to install other essential software for the laptop.
- Uninstall the third-party security software.
- Restart the computer and check if windows defender is running (Now my windows defender is running and Windows Defender service was not greyed out)
Now try to install the windows update
The installation was slow the installation was slow. It took a little more than an hour to complete the installation.
Hope this should help someone facing the same problem.
