Gaming laptops have been around for longer than today and MSI is often one of the most innovative manufacturers in this field. This also applies to the newest GS63VR 6RF. A powerful laptop specifically aimed at gamers, but certainly not wrong as a powerful replacement for your desktop computer.
The MSI GS63VR 6RF Stealth Pro is an excellent laptop that is nice and fast and that you can work with comfortably. And although this machine is used as a gaming laptop, it can also be used as a high-end replacement for a desktop PC.
Just like all gaming laptops from MSI, this fast Stealth Pro also stands out because of its design. Perhaps slightly less pronounced than the models from the Republic of Gamers series from Asus, for example, but this model is certainly no thirteen in a dozen devices in terms of reliability and functionality.
However, the GS63VR 6RF Stealth Pro stands out for its illuminated keyboard, where every third of the keyboard has a different color, from red via green to blue. Via the Dragon Center app in Windows 10 you can change the colors used for the keyboard yourself or even switch them off completely.
MSI GS63VR 6RF Stealth Pro Hardware
No shortage of fast components in this MSI. For example, an Intel Core i7 processor (6700HQ) at 2.6 GHz, 16 GB DDR4 main memory, a PCI Express SSD of 256 GB with Windows 10 installed and a standard 1 TB hard disk is provided. The keyboard is very sturdy, has a nice touch and there is room for an extra numeric part. The only minor drawback is that the Windows key to open the start menu is only present on the right side of the keyboard. Most users will want to see them on the left, so that takes some getting used to.
The power in this laptop is mainly in the Nvidia GTX 1060 graphics chip. The chip has its own dedicated graphics memory of 6 GB, which means that nothing is cut off from the normal working memory when playing games or when using heavy graphics applications.
MSI GS63VR 6RF Stealth Pro versions
This laptop discussed by us comes in two versions, where only the screen resolution differs. The model we viewed has a 15.6 inch IPS Full-HD screen (1920 by 1080), but there is also a version available with an IPS UHD resolution (3840 by 2160). The latter model is about 100 euros more expensive, but you get a twice as high resolution in return.
The MSI is suitable for VR, at least that appears from the sticker on it. This is mainly due to the powerful Intel processor and the fast graphics card, but you will not get VR glasses with this laptop. That in itself would have been a nice extra, especially considering the high price of the laptop.
The MSI GS63VR 6RF Stealth Pro works great in practice, although we have to get used to the keyboard. Some keys are slightly larger or smaller than we are used to, and we notice that the absence of the Windows key on the left is quite difficult: we teach ourselves to do as many tasks with the keyboard as possible, but this way it is made difficult for us. It is nice that there is a separate numeric part on the keyboard, but that should not have been at the expense of the Windows key.
However, the laptop also feels very solid, and unlike many other powerful (gaming) laptops, with its 1.8 kg, it is also easy to take with you when traveling. A disadvantage is the location of the on / off switch. Where this is placed quite reasonably out of the way in a large part of the laptops, for example on the side of the screen, the on / off button on this MSI is located directly to the right on the side. When shifting or lifting the laptop, there is a chance that you accidentally press the button, causing the laptop to be switched off unintentionally.
